Custom Fields

Learn how to set up and manage Custom Fields in BuildOps — including tags, types, and dropdown options for jobs, customers, projects, and more.

What Are Custom Fields?

Custom Fields are the dropdown options and tags your team uses throughout BuildOps — things like Job Types, Customer Tags, Project Types, and more. Setting these up in advance keeps your data consistent and makes filtering and reporting much easier.

For example:

  • Create a Job Type called T&M so techs can select it when creating a job

  • Add a Customer Tag called Tax Exempt so you can filter those customers in a table

Any time you need to add, rename, or remove an option from a dropdown or tag list, this is where you do it.

How to Get Access Custom Fields

  1. Hover over your company name in the top-left corner

  2. Hover through Settings, then select Custom Fields

You'll see a list of all the field categories available in BuildOps. Click the arrow (›) next to any category to expand it and see the current options.

Adding, Editing, and Deleting Options

Note: Managing tag values (adding, editing, or deleting) requires admin-level permissions. Simply having access to the Custom Fields menu does not grant these capabilities.

Add a new option

  1. Expand the field category you want to update

  2. Click + Add at the bottom of the list

  3. Type your new option in the text box that appears

Edit an existing option

  1. Expand the field category

  2. Click directly on the option's text and make your changes

Delete an option

  1. Expand the field category

  2. Click the trash icon next to the option you want to remove

  3. Confirm the deletion when prompted

Reorder the list

  1. Expand the field category

  2. Click and drag the handle (⠿) next to any option to move it up or down

Don't forget to save. Click Save in the top-right corner when you're done - your changes won't apply until you save.
