Set Up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) in BuildOps
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security to your BuildOps login by requiring a one-time verification code from an authenticator app when you sign in.
Before you begin
MFA in BuildOps is turned on at the company level, not for just one person. Once MFA is enabled, it applies to all users in your BuildOps account and each user will be prompted to enroll the next time they sign in.
BuildOps supports authenticator app-based MFA. Common options include Microsoft Authenticator, and Google Authenticator. SMS/text-message MFA is not supported.
For company admins
If you want to enable MFA for your company’s BuildOps account, your CSM or BuildOps Support can turn MFA on for your account settings before users attempt enrollment.
Before enabling MFA, make sure your team knows the following:
MFA applies to all users in your BuildOps account, not just selected individuals.
Users can sign in with a supported authenticator app to complete setup.
For standard authenticator app setup, users do not need to all use the same app. Microsoft Authenticator and Google Authenticator both work with the same QR-code enrollment flow.
After MFA is enabled, users should sign out and sign back in to complete enrollment when prompted.
What users can expect
After MFA is enabled, the next time a user signs in to BuildOps they will be prompted to set up an authenticator app.
They can either:
scan a QR code, or
enter a setup key manually.
Once they add BuildOps to their authenticator app, they will enter the 6-digit code generated by the app to finish setup.
After setup is complete, users will enter a new code from their authenticator app each time they sign in.
Set up MFA on web or mobile
The enrollment experience is the same whether a user is signing in on web or on the BuildOps Mobile App: after MFA has been enabled for the account, the user signs in, enrolls with an authenticator app, and enters a 6-digit code to finish setup.
Step 1: Sign in to BuildOps
Sign in with your usual BuildOps username and password.
Step 2: Open your authenticator app
When prompted, open your preferred authenticator app, such as Microsoft Authenticator, or Google Authenticator.
Step 3: Scan the QR code or enter the setup key
Use your authenticator app to scan the QR code shown on screen, or enter the setup key manually.
Step 4: Enter the verification code
Your authenticator app will generate a 6-digit code. Enter that code in BuildOps to complete setup.
Step 5: Sign in with MFA going forward
Once setup is complete, MFA is active and you’ll be asked for a new code each time you sign in.
Important note for users re-enrolling MFA
If a user previously had a BuildOps entry in their authenticator app, they may need to remove the old entry and scan the new QR code again before the new codes will work.
