New: Tax Settings Dedicated Page
We’ve introduced a new Tax Settings page in BuildOps that brings key tax configuration into one place.
Previously:
AP Taxes (Tax Regions, Tax Categories, Tax Codes, and Tax Rates) were managed under Accounting Settings → Taxes.
Work Taxability (which controls whether job work is taxable or non‑taxable for Avalara) was configured separately on the Avalara integration screen.
These settings are now unified under Settings → Tax Settings, giving admins a single location to manage tax rules. This also lays the groundwork for using Work Taxability with additional tax solutions in future releases.
This update affects:
Customers with AP Taxes enabled.
Customers using Work Taxability + Avalara.
Admins who previously went to Accounting Settings for taxes will now manage these settings under Settings → Tax Settings. This change does not alter how tax is calculated; it only changes where you configure it.
What You’ll See on the Tax Settings Page
The Tax Settings page includes two main tabs:
Work Taxability
AP Taxes
Work Taxability (Relocated)
The Work Taxability tab is where you define work taxability options (for example, Tangible Personal Property, Real Property, Capital Expenditure, Non‑Taxable Resale). These options determine whether specific types of work should be treated as taxable or non‑taxable, and are used together with Avalara.
Previously configured on the Avalara integration screen.
Now managed under Settings → Tax Settings → Work Taxability.
The Avalara integration page now includes a link that takes you to this new configuration area.
AP Taxes (Relocated)
The AP Taxes tab now hosts all configuration that previously lived under Accounting Settings → Taxes. Functionality is unchanged; only the navigation path has moved.
From this tab, you can continue to:
Define Tax Regions – geographic areas that drive which tax rates apply.
Define Tax Categories – categories for goods and services for tax purposes.
Configure Tax Codes – mappings between regions and categories that determine which rate should be used.
Maintain Tax Rates – sales and use tax percentages with effective dates.
Import Tax Regions, Categories, Codes, and Rates in bulk using CSV.
Access to the new Tax Settings page follows your existing permissions for tax configuration.
