The Asset Nameplate Scanner is available in the BuildOps mobile app.
This new capability helps technicians create asset records faster while working in the field. Instead of manually typing equipment details into a mobile device, technicians can take a photo of an equipment nameplate and BuildOps will automatically populate key asset information.
What’s new
Technicians can now use the Asset Nameplate Scanner to:
create new asset records directly from the mobile app during a visit
scan an equipment nameplate to automatically populate make, model, and serial number
save the asset to the correct property while still in the field
mark the new asset as worked on as part of the same visit
This update helps your team:
reduce manual data entry in the field
improve asset record accuracy
document equipment the moment it is discovered
build a more complete asset database over time
support future service history, reporting, and asset-based workflows
Availability
The Asset Nameplate Scanner is available in the BuildOps mobile app on:
Job visits
Maintenance visits
It is not available in:
Project visits
Billable events
Non-billable events
How it works
From the visit detail screen, technicians can
Open Assets Worked On
select Add Asset
Scan an equipment nameplate.
BuildOps reads the image and fills in the make, model, and serial number fields automatically. The technician can then review the information, complete the remaining asset details, and save the record.
Once saved, the asset record becomes available in BuildOps on the web after sync is complete.
Notes
Technicians should always review and confirm auto-filled values before saving.
The quality of the scan depends on the photo. Clear, well-lit images produce the best results.
Asset types must already be configured in BuildOps on the web before technicians can assign them in the mobile app.
The scanner works offline and syncs automatically when connectivity is restored.
