Export permissions for Customer and Property lists
We’ve added new export-only permissions for the Customer list and Property list. This lets your admins allow users to view these lists in BuildOps while separately controlling who can export that data to CSV.
This change is especially helpful for companies that treat their customer and property lists as proprietary data and want an extra layer of protection against unauthorized exports.
What’s changing
New Export permission for the Customer list.
New Export permission for the Property list.
List visibility and export are now controlled separately (view ≠ export).
Users without the Export permission will still see the Export button on these lists, but it will be disabled with a tooltip explaining that they don’t have permission.
There is no change to the data itself or to how customer and property records work elsewhere in BuildOps.
How to access and manage the setting
Where users see the change
Go to Customers or Properties in BuildOps.
Open the list view.
The Export button in the top-right of the list will now respect the new Export permission.
If a user has permission, they can export the list to CSV as usual.
If a user does not have permission, the button appears disabled with an explanatory tooltip.

Where admins manage the permission
Admins can manage export access from Roles & Permissions:
In BuildOps, go to Settings.
Open Roles & Permissions.
For each role you want to adjust:
Go to Libraries > Customers and look for the Export Customers permission
Go to Libraries > Properties and look for the Export Properties permission
Check or uncheck these Export permissions depending on which roles should be allowed to export the Customer and Property lists.
Notes:
Export permissions are only relevant for roles that already have View access to the Customer or Property list.
This update only controls CSV export from the Customer and Property lists.
It does not block exports or data access from Dashboards, reports, or other modules.
It does not change your existing data, or integrations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why is the export button greyed out for some users?
A: Their role does not have the Export Customers and/or Export Properties permission. An admin can update their role under Settings > Roles & Permissions > Libraries > Customers / Libraries > Properties.
Q: Will anything change automatically for my current users?
A: No. All roles that already had list-view access were given the matching Export permission at launch, so behavior stays the same unless an admin removes those Export permissions.
Q:Does this stop all data export from BuildOps?
A: No. This change only gates CSV export from the Customer and Property lists. Users may still be able to export or access data through Dashboards and other reporting features, depending on their permissions.
