Editable Customer Field in Opportunities (CRM+)
Availability: This feature is generally available to all CRM+ users.
What's New
You can now change the Customer (Account) associated with an Opportunity in CRM+ directly from the Opportunity detail page.
Instead of deleting and recreating an Opportunity to correct the customer, you can update the Customer field on the existing record. Your Opportunity and its activity history stay intact.
This update includes:
Editable Customer field: Change the Customer directly on the Opportunity detail page.
Preserved activity history: Keep the existing Opportunity record and its activity history when you select a different Customer.
Why This Matters
The customer you select when creating an Opportunity may change as the deal progresses. For example, you may initially associate an Opportunity with one general contractor, but a different contractor is ultimately awarded the work.
Previously, the Customer field was locked after the Opportunity was created. Correcting it required deleting and rebuilding the Opportunity, which meant losing its activity history.
This update lets your team keep customer information up to date without rebuilding the record or losing the history of the deal.
How It Works
Step 1: Open the Opportunity
After the feature is enabled:
Open the Opportunity you want to update in CRM+.
Go to the Opportunity detail page.
Step 2: Update the Customer
Edit the Customer field directly on the Opportunity detail page.
Select the correct Customer.
The existing Opportunity record and its activity history remain intact.
Note: Depending on your company's property settings, you may need to reselect the Property after changing the Customer.
Limitations
One Customer per Opportunity: Each Opportunity still supports only one Customer. This update does not let you track multiple bidding customers on a single Opportunity.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will changing the Customer remove my Opportunity's activity history?
The Opportunity record and its activity history remain intact when you update the Customer.
Can I change the Customer after the Opportunity is Won or Lost?
Yes. The Customer (Account) can be edited at any stage of the Opportunity, the same way the Property field works today.
Can I add all the general contractors I am bidding to on one Opportunity?
Each Opportunity can still have only one Customer. This update lets you change that Customer, but it does not add support for multiple customers on one record.
